Poem: Medellin

A gloomy Tuesday in Medellin
has the clouds crying on the mountains
through the cracks in the communa walls
tears trickle in
forming puddles from a broken past
the children splash around
but the dirty water still hits their skin
I’ve never seen a city
hold so much beauty
and carry so much harm
it’s no wonder my heart sinks
into a sordid hole
it had to happen here
all the heartbreak I’ve encountered
rushing through me at once
in the city of eternal spring
the soul is constantly reborn
and maybe it’s too much.
