Poem: Sleepless in Colombia

I haven’t slept much

I’m running on excitement

nerves and feelings developed

the good times get me giddy

and when I try to simmer down

a pretty woman always seems to find me

my head hits the pillow

the hopeless romantic in me takes over

between the butterflies

and dorm room noise

I’m up every hour

but no matter how tired I am

it’s never difficult to get up

I’m cashing in a bit of depression

for a little taste of danger

the unknown makes the heart beat

on a two for one deal

and it would be silly to turn it down.
