Poem – The New World

I'm reaching for the feeling
when everything was new
the giddy eyes of surprised baby
when you re-appear
during peek-a-boo
the shaggy wagging tail 
of a clumsy puppy
stumbling through the coffee shop
every fresh scent
a wave of genuine excitement
if only I could capture it
pour it in a candle
let the flame light up the room.
